The music is crisp, but the music is like aural masturbation, where’s the love?
I’m pretty sure no one really understands Radiohead. Sure, they have tons of fans, and they make beautiful music, but does anyone ever really know what’s going on when they listen to the music? I think not.
And that’s what’s most frustrating with In Rainbows, you still don’t get it, but the emotional attachment that draws the fan in is lacking here too. The objective observer can’t deny how technically perfect the album is, but there is a distance between the artists and the listener that hasn’t surfaced on any other albums.
That’s why it’s like jacking off with your ears, everything works out in the end, but the whole time it’s going on you can’t help but wish there was some substance to what was going on.
