Today’s reggae scene seems to be populated by artists whose lyrics I cannot understand for the life of me (any Sean Paul song, for example). But rest assured, Shaggy is back with an album full of decipherable lyrics, danceable beats, and even a few jams that will make you want to light up a fattie and chill.
The most mesmerizing track is definitely Intoxication, which mixes a Timbaland-inspired beat with lyrics that we can all relate to: “I ain’t ever going to drink again, before I take a sip I’m gonna think of when, I had sex with my woman’s best friend again…” Although the song is about not being able to blame it on being intoxicated, let’s be serious, this is the same guy who claimed “it wasn’t me” when doing a chick in the bathroom.
The beats basically continue through the rest of the album on tracks like Body a Shake, Out of Control, and More Woman. Somehow, Shaggy managed to make this album flow really well, as it ends on a throwback to Bob Marley-style reggae with All About Love, a song that’s sure to make you roll it up, light it up, and smoke it up.
