Listen, I know it’s mostly an album of B-sides and live recordings, but if you aren’t going to take pride in your work, why put it out? Sawdust is as frustrating as it is incomplete; proving that two hit records don’t always mean a band knows where it’s going.
The biggest problem on this album is the imitation. Too often the frontman, Brandon Flowers, sounds like someone else. Sounding like Morrissey on Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself? is cool, but you know who sounds like Morrissey? Morrissey. Weird, huh?
Poor imitation flows the other way as well. The band can’t seem to embrace the many covers found on Sawdust, the listener never feels like The Killers are embracing a song, making it their own.
