CD Review: Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple

By The Booze News

I remember when St. Elsewhere was released in 2006; it didn’t leave my car’s CD player for the entire summer. Crazy, the album’s first single, was, well, crazy, and the rest of the album came through with an equal level of musical insanity, I just couldn’t get enough of it.

Then I suddenly didn’t want to listen to it anymore. At all. I grew disgusted with St. Elsewhere, the insane beats and bizarre themes were just too much. Now it’s 2008, and I see the cycle repeating itself with Gnarls Barkley’s newest release, The Odd Couple.

When I saw Run, the single, on YouTube I watched it compulsively. I made my friends watch it. I talked about it like it was Jesus on my monitor. When the CD leaked, it didn’t leave repeat on my iTunes for some time. And I still listen to Going On at least once a day.

But that’s the thing; I know The Odd Couple is going to wear on me. Two months from now I’m going to be pissed at myself for all the time I’ve invested in a single CD, and I’m going to distance myself from it out of pure necessity.

Still, for now, give me that funk.

Download:
Going On, Whatever, Run

Sounds like:
A soul musician having a seizure on acid.

Listen to it when:
You just took about forty No-Doz and you want to dance.
