CD Review: Nada Surf - Lucky

By The Booze News

We’ll be honest, we didn’t know what we were getting into when we…uh…legally obtained(?) Nada Surf’s new album, Lucky. We knew of Nada Surf in the way we knew of sobriety, it exists in some crazy nook of the universe we were yet to experience. We thought it would be some “run through that wall over there” rock and roll; it wasn’t.

Nada Surf is about as relaxed as you can get for the genre; and we rolled through each song noting the overall enjoyment of it. It’s a CD we could read a book to, if we read. We imagine the guys in the band put out a record every once in a while when they are bored and tired of sitting on a beach somewhere in southern California.

We’re not faulting the CD because it’s simple and enjoyable, that would be dumb and pretentious. Lucky’s only real flaw is that it’s almost too mellow, to the point of being uninspiring. The whole thing just seems like we’d hear it in a Nissan commercial, and that, friends, is a bummer.

Sounds like:
Jack Johnson, if you threw an entire band behind him.

Listen to it when:
You are chilling on a beach with a bucket of beer.
